Rawnola. The ultimate easy healthy 2-ingredient topping or snack. Chewy and sweet, this no bake granola alternative tastes just like cookie dough–it’s addictive!
The other 360-something days of your year will be better if you start making this today.
Many bloggers start off the year with a green smoothie recipe. I start off with something to put on top of that green smoothie to make it taste like a cookie dough blizzard (blend the smoothie up extra thick of course, and sub spoon for straw). You may be thinking “But Natalie, you are missing the whole point of a healthy detoxifying start to the new year!” But I promise Oat Rawnola is the perfect detox food.
Here’s my logic…
– It will make you eat more green smoothies because they taste like a cookie dough blizzard.
– You’ll still be eating green smoothies 11 months from now because no one ever gets tired of cookie dough blizzards.
– It will satisfy your dessert cravings and fill you up more than a plain green smoothie because chewiness and sweetness and general yumminess of a cookie dough blizzard, so you are less likely to eat an entire bar of chocolate at 11 p.m. because you’ve been “eating clean” all day.
– And finally, oats and dates are both VERY high in fiber. So that certainly can’t hurt.
My favorite simple smoothie blend to go underneath the rawnola is spinach + kale + almond milk + maca + frozen bananas. If you are looking for more green smoothie recipes here are a few ideas…
– Tropical Green Smoothie from Veggie Inspired
– Energizing Green Smoothie Bowl from The Glowing Fridge
– Spinach Banana Super Smoothie from Hurry the Food Up
– Green Machine Spinach Smoothie from Full of Beans
– Going Green Smoothie with Oat Rawnola from A Virtual Vegan
– Or for the green smoothie skeptics, this Healthy Green Smoothie Guide from My Berry Forest
It’s a tasty snack by itself too, of course.
I made rawnola for the first time a few months ago and haven’t stopped since. It has shown up on my Instgram and in my What I Eat video because I eat it every day.
I usually go back for more rawnola part way through the smoothie bowl because…well… I’m obsessed with this stuff. Thats the best part of healthy toppings, you can pile them on high!
This is certainly not my original idea, all that credit goes to Loni Jane. My version is a little different than the original, which uses coconut as well as oats. I thought by now most everyone had heard of rawnola, but someone asked me on Youtube how to make it. If there is even one person who hasn’t tried it, then I need to make a video showing exactly how because everyone needs this in their life. Everyone.

Have you ever tried rawnola? If the answer is no then go to the kitchen, make it, fall in love with it, come back, and then we’ll talk.
I love this recipe – it’s so easy to make and only 2 ingredients?! Count me in! And it’s the perfect base recipe to add in all kinds of fun. 🙂
I know right, I’m pretty excited about the add-in potential 🙂 Just cacao powder would be pretty amazing!
What a treat on top of a smoothie! Yummy, simple, fast – just what we like!
I think we will need to try this out. Natalie, have you tried it with other dates? We usually have a big store of khadrawy dates, (less expensive).
Also, THANKS for the link to our smoothie. ?
★★★★
I haven’t tried other dates because I can’t get any others around here. Do you order yours online or can you find them locally around you? I’d love to try other types, especially if they are cheaper! I’m sure it would work with any, just might have to adjust the ratio.
we get our dates from 7hotdates.com in California. They sell all sorts of yummy organic date varieties and I get the khadrawy dates in 11 pound boxes! ?
I’m a little obsessed with dates, to be honest. I put 6 to 8 of them in my smoothie every morning, and then bring a baggie of them with me during the day as a snack.
Good to know, I’ve thought about ordering from them before. I think my date obsession has gotten to a level that warrants it haha 😀 They are a great snack and smoothie ingredient, I totally understand how you can go through so many!
So now not only do you want me to have smoothie, but also dates….well….I got the smoothie part so the next step in my 2016 “Natalie-directed” plan is to buy some dates….because this looks beyond snacking addiction….my goodness………like chewy sweet clumps of joy <3
I keep raising the bar on you–first smoothie now smoothie + fruity toppings! Yes buy some dates stat! There’s an extra day in the year, that gives you plenty of time to rawnola. “Chewy sweet clumps of joy” that just made my day <3
That’s pretty sound logic to me! And I think this rawnola and Rebecca’s smoothie are a must!
There’s some solid science behind that reasoning don’t you think? 😉 haha Now if only Rebecca and I lived closer we could throw the two together in one big delicious bowl!
Two ingredients to deliciousness!? My kind of recipe! Great way to kick off the new year, girl! Can’t wait to see what else is in store for this lovely blog of yours. 🙂
To me dates are 1 ingredient to deliciousness, but that wouldn’t be much of a recipe haha! Thanks Kaila, I’m excited to see where this year leads me too 🙂
Yussssss! Rawnola <3 <3 Can't wait to see your new flavour of rawnola coming up! And that molasses pour shot ohhhhh baby.
Good to know it works in a vitamix! I've only ever made mine in a food processor.
Beauuuutiful video as always!
Thanks Leah! Molasses is very photogenic, it has the perfect viscosity for pour shots I think. And I left my food processor at my apartment over the holidays, so I HAD to find a way to do it in the Vitamix. It’s a little trickier, but having only one gadget to clean makes it worth it I think 🙂
I’m not a smoothie person, but I AM a cookie dough person and this looks just perfect and I love how simple of course! I’ve seen a lot of rawnola on Instagram and have never tried any yet! I LOVE the taste of my granola batter before I bake it and tend to eat a lot of it, so hey, next time I just won’t bake it, hahaha! Great easy recipe and of course, always love your videos!
Pre-oven granola batter is delicious! I’m always stealing bites of that stuff too. You don’t have to like smoothies, just throw it on top of some real ice cream it would be amazing <3
OMG I thought I was the only one who ate pre-baked granola!!!
Hahaha! If it’s a batter/dough, I’ve eaten it!
I’ve been wanting to get some medjool dates again soon! This looks so yummy! Love filling up on delicious, fiber-rich foods!
So much fiber here haha 😀 I couldn’t last very long without dates on hand, I hope you can stock up again soon!
Me too! 🙂
I love how easy this is to make. And the oats give it protein and good carbs. Perfection!
Like portable little oatmeal bites 🙂
I bet my son would love this!
It’s the perfect little finger food snack so I think he would!
This sounds amazing!! 2 ingredients make cookie dough taste? LOVE it!! And what a nice surprise to see you linked to my smoothie recipe. Thanks, girl! Definitely trying this!
Yeah for sure! You have lots of yummy smoothie recipes, I was browsing through them all yesterday while writing this 🙂
First of all, your hair looks like it’s getting long!!! Always nice to see your face! Second, I always watch your videos with Willow and she had me replay this one four times so she could see your dog! haha! We love rawnola and this post reminded me that I need to make a batch for willow since it’s been forever. You’re absolutely right though…it does taste like cookie dough! SOOO good! And I love your logic! Looking forward to the funky flavors! xoxo
Oh really! That’s great to hear I my hair grows so slowly that I barely notice. Makes me happy to hear though, thank you! Hahaha Willow’s so cute, she knows the important parts of the video 😀 Just based on the recipes you make, I had a feeling you might already be a rawnola fan! Since I know you don’t do oats, do you make your rawnola with coconut or nuts or quinoa flakes (quinoa flakes, that’s an interesting idea!) or something else?? Thanks for always watching Mandy <3
Oh, what?!?! I love quinoa flakes, but never thought to try them in rawnola! Always getting ideas from you. I’ve been living life without rawnola since the forced separation from oats, but now I need to do some experimenting! Thank YOU! xo <3
I just thought of it when I was writing to you, so I credit you for inspiring me to inspire you haha! Let me know if you try it 🙂
I love the simplicity of just 2 ingredients! Such a great base for so many more flavors too!
Thanks Heather, and yes I’m excited about the flavors too 🙂
This is so amazing Natalie! I can totally see myself piling this up on my smoothie bowl until it falls all over the kitchen table 😀

Hahaha just that mental picture sounds absolutely delicious and perfect <3
Im always one to eat granola on my cereal and this rawnola could not be simpler to make! Love it!
Granola on top of cereal? I’ve never tried that! Sounds like a fun texture party though, you are giving me ideas 🙂 Thanks Bethany!
Oh my goodness – healthy cookie dough?! YES PLEASE! This recipe is gorgeous Natalie, I love that you make delicious treats that are also so healthy! The fact that it’s just 2 ingredients is amazing too – I have to try this!
★★★★★
Thanks Harriet! It’s pretty much like healthy cookie dough that you can eat for breakfast, so I hope you do try it soon 🙂
RAWNOLA RAWNOLA RAWNOLA. You got me convinced! I need RAWNOLA in my life asap. I’ll make it first thing tomorrow:) yayyy I’m having rawnola for brekkie!! You are the sweetest. As is probably RAWNOLA too, right:) Good night<3

Haha I think rawnola might be even sweeter than me! Dates are pretty darn sugar-filled, which is why I love them <3 I'm excited for you for breakfast tomorrow, I hope you love it! I would've thought you had tried it before tbh with all the beautiful smoothies and bowls you've made. And I was so happy to find your green smoothie guide while looking for green smoothie recipes to link to, it is perfect! And yes Nolan (my pup) gets a little bit of everything I make...well except chocolate things 🙂
Healthy cookie dough that you can eat for breakfast? I’m sold!
I’m not going to lie, I have eaten real cookie dough for breakfast many a time. I think my body would welcome the change! 🙂
Thanks for sharing, Natalie. The photos are stunning! xS

Hahaha some days just call for cookie dough for breakfast–healthy or not, But you’ll probably feel a little better after eating this that the real stuff! Thank you for reading Sofia and for your sweet comment <3
It looks absolutely delicious! And I love that fact that it’s raw!! I would be a happy girl if I started my day with this deliciousness! 😀
Thanks Nadia! I don’t purposely make many raw recipes anymore, but its nice when something just happens to be raw. And so easy 🙂 It’s an awesome breakfast, I’ve been having it almost daily these past few weeks!
Sold! Well, actually I already loved rawnola, but you just made me appreciate it about a million billion times more 😀 .< 😀
…P.S. Not sure what’s going on between those two smiles in my comment?! Seems like they’re enjoying each other’s company? One thinks he’s greater than the other? Is he pointing fingers?! 😀
Besides the botched smile, the second part of my comment seems to have gone missing… I think I said something along the lines of: About the green smoothie year start thing… I think I went straight to chocolate > . <

It doesn’t look like gibberish from here, just a civil game of which smiley is better than the other. Emojis are competitive little dudes it seems. Or yeah I could see the finger pointing too, maybe they did something bad and he’s trying to pass the blame. Uh oh maybe he’s a criminal emoji on the run from the law?? hahahaha It was probably for drinking too many chocolate smoothies and not enough green ones 😉 I’ve been doing lots of chocolate and greens smoothies, which are hideous but delicious!
Haha. Yes, chocolate green smoothies aren’t very photogenic… :S Oh, well, still delicious!

I beleive rolled oats are not raw as they are steamed prior to rolling. Steel cut; however, are raw.

You HAVE to tell me what the recipe is in the 5th photo down, it looks like some type of bread or cake topped with a scoop of an ice cream looking topping then crumbled rawnola and a molasses looking syrup…I need it in my life, but when I click on the photo, it does not take me to the pin, only the photo.
Ha yes that was quite a delicious little creation! It is this cornmeal banana bread (https://www.feastingonfruit.com/maple-cornmeal-banana-bread/) with banana ice cream on top and rawnola and date syrup. Although molasses would be amazing too! definitely worth recreating??
Yesss!! Thank you so much!!
It looks absolutely delicious! And I love that fact that it’s raw!! I would be a happy girl if I started my day with this deliciousness! 😀
Mmm on top of a creamy and extra thick green smoothie bowl–there is no better breakfast if you ask me😋
